More Wide leg wonders

Well, I found my wide leg jeans after much searching for the perfect fit. The saleswoman at Macy's led me to them and I smiled gleefully as I admired myself in the dressing room. They are 7 For All Mankind Ginger fit and I LOVE the length. They definitely have a 70's thing going on (that was SO my decade!)

I am keeping everything else simple with a pop of color at my feet:

My new Spring shoe: Damaris platform sandal $110 @ guess.com

I also found great wide leg pants at Gap that are available in short, regular and long lengths for only $49.50!

The picture shows a more casual way to wear these but I plan on dressing them up a bit with a button down shirt and high heel. Tailored boyfriend pant @ gap.com

Maxi-mum length!

The 1970's fashion scene saw more than the mini skirt, it also brought the maxi, or ankle length silhouette to the forefront. These breezy floor length dresses are comfortable while still maintaining your chic-ness. I am drawn to ankle grazing dresses that I can wear with flip flops for a casual feel or dress up with a pair of strappy sandals for a nighttime vibe. I love a boho feel, adding a pair of hoop earrings, sparkly thong sandals and a funky bag to complete the look.

Yea or Nay?

I did not think that this dress was all that cute shown here but it is very cute on the model in the pic. What do you think, yea or nay?

Spring Things

Okay, it will be the first day of Spring next week (March 21st) and it is definitely time to get my wardobe together. So this weekend I will be doing the following:

1. Transitioning my winter wardrobe out and getting rid of the things that I did not wear the past season.

2. Assessing my Spring/Summer wardrobe from last year and making a list of things that I
need (ha!)

3. Deciding which colors/items/trends that I am willing to participate in. I look at my magazines and tear out pictures and colors that I like, but I am not a slave to trends. Decide what works with your personal style and add some trendy things but don't go overboard. Accessories are a great way to update your look.

4. For every new item you buy, get rid of something. I used to jam my closet with all my clothes and not get rid of anything and I would get so frustrated because I couldn't find anything to wear. But the problem was that I had too many options, streamline your wardrobe so that you can see what's in your closet.

5. Only buy things that you
LOVE. Even if an item is on sale, love it or leave it. By the time that you buy ten $20 items that were on sale, you could have bought that $200 bag that you thought was too expensive but fell in love with.

Layer cake

I want to learn to layer. There. I've put it out there, I DON'T KNOW HOW! I can wear a shirt underneath a jacket, but my look is more streamlined than layered and casual. I want to be able to wear a fitted shirt underneath a dress or a cute top and not feel foolish. Or a dress with pants underneath or a crisp button down long sleeve shirt underneath a short knit dress. Here are some tips that I am going to try and for the other "layering impaired"

Balance: If you layer on top, keep it simple and fitted on the bottom. Also, don't wear chunky tops over a chunky bottom, you will look, well chunky.

Color: Try to keep the colors in the same family or monochromatic. You can also play with textures and patterns but not too much, you don't want to look too "busy."

Layering options:

Short sleeve tee over a long (white) sleeve tee
Floaty top underneath a chunky cardigan
Short skirt with tights or patterned hose

Real way layering:

Clear as a bell

The Chanel "Naked" bag"

I guess designers are hoping this clear thing catches on because now clear pvc and lucite are popping up on high end retailers' shelves. Karl Lagerfield created a sensation with his "Naked" bag at the Chanel shows and other designers have caught the transparency bug, from brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Manolo and Fendi. Some fashionistas who are willing to pay for the high end bags and shoes say that it's easier for them to find things in the totes because of the clear looks and it's also a symbol of having up to the minute trends in high style.

Manolo Blahnik lucite sandal $585 at Neiman Marcus

Giovanna Furlanetta plastic and leather bag $450

Stuart Weitzman jellystone clear jelly (remember these?!) $115

Lambertson Truex clear tote $445 at Saks

Donna Karan 864914 $494 at Zappo's

I spoke to one of the buyers in our handbag department and she thinks that this style is a flash in the pan and won't be around for long. I will not be participating in this trend, my sister used to work at Dillard's and they had to carry plastic purses to be "checked" before they left the store. This is what these reminds me of.
