Let's go Shoe Shopping!

I was salivating as I strolled thru Nordstrom last Sunday, their shoe displays always stop my in my tracks and that day was no exception. I was also surprised to see that a lot of the shoes on display were very reasonable in addition to being uber fab. So thank you Nordstrom, now I must make my wish list of shoes that I have to have.

Poetic License "Gift Wrapped" pump $99.95
(These are my faves, must.have.now.) Some people say sequins are for "occasions," I say ANY occasion is a time for sequins! I would totally wear these to work with tights and a black shift dress or with a pair of jeans. Yummy.

Let's get Graphic

Well, I broke down and got the J. Crew tee that I have been eyeing and I am not sorry. It's a gorgeous tee and paired with my strands of pearls, I love the look paired with jeans or a suit. So now I am on the lookout for other graphic tees that are not for the teenybopper set.

Anna Sui for Target

I saw these items today and I must say that I was impressed but I am still faltering on paying these mall store prices at Target! I mean, Anna Sui usually retails from between $300-$800 so I understand that this is a coup for Target consumers to get her brand at these prices but I still can't help thinking, "But it's Target." But maybe it's just me, am I being a spendthrift or is Target getting too big for its britches?

Herringbone dress $59.99

Silk Patterned Dress $59.99

Silk wrap dress - Geo floral $59.99

Houndstooth jacquard dress $69.99 (This is my fave, it is more amazing in person)

Seersucker dress with lace $59.99

Silk Printed Tunic Dress $49.99

Silk wrap dress $59.99

Mad for Plaid

If you're a sucker for plaid, make sure that the print is not too overwhelming, especially if you are petite. You can always add a touch of tartan with accessories if you want to try the trend and see how you like it.

Harajuku Lovers Ascona boot $114.95

Love it or Loathe it?

Aaahh, Drew Barrymore. Either you love her flighty, fashion forward ways or you hate it. I love Drew, always have, from her flower child curly bob in Boys on the Side to her recent retro Grey Garden looks, Drew doesn't seem to care about getting it right, she just does what she feels at the time. Here she is promoting her new flick, Whip It at the Toronto Film Festival in an Alexander McQueen web detail dress and Casadei shoes along with two tone locks. So what say you, faithful readers, do we love it or loathe it?

My verdict: Love the unique, fun dress, hate the dip dyed hair but I think she pulls it off overall.

Cover Girl: Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson talks adoption, remarriage and about her brother Michael's death in the current issue of Harper's Bazaar. I wish they would have chosen a different cover photo but the black and white pictures are gorgeous. Read the full interview here.

Fall Fashion 2009: Scarves

Inifinity Scarves:

Saved from learning to tie a scarf, opt for an infinity or circle scarf instead. I went the cheap route and got mine from Target but the American Apparel scarf has a variety of ways to wear it so you have a multipurpose version.

Chunky Scarves:

Cozy yet still stylish, you can wear this scarf to protect you from the coldest of winter chills.

What I Want NOW!

I am really feeling J. Crew these days, (especially since they have closed Club Monaco in Northpark Mall, shame on them!) They seem to be mixing more affordable items in their line, which I appreciate.

J. Crew slub cotton embroidered flowers tee $42.50

I want to pair this with a black suit and layers of gray and white pearls. I never thought I'd see the day when I would want to pay $42 for a TEE SHIRT but that day is here, people.

J. Crew Winnie jacket $245

PERRRRRRFECT.

Harajuku Lovers women's patch two piece pump $89.95

I have been on the lookout for some non-peep toe but still stylish shoes for work and these pumps fit the bill. I think I may dream of them tonight....They do not have my size on Amazon so I am off to look for a free shipping coupon from Victoria's Secret, I HATE paying shipping and handling!

Code Enforcement

I am having a hard time at work. Not the work but the dress code is verrrrrrrry conservative. No sleeveless tops or dresses, closed toe shoes and pantyhose. (I asked in all seriousness, "Seriously????") So this poses a problem for me not because I can't abide by the dress code but I still want to be my creative fashionable self and these rules are cramping my style. So I have come up with some options:

Tahari four button vest pantsuit $181.99 (on sale); Tulle tie neck blouse $58

Add pointy toe black heels to complete the look.

Muse seam detail pointe knit dress $144; Steve Madden Tayla $119.90

Add grey tights to create a long line and to complete the look.

Jones New York suit $179.99 (on sale); Forever 21 Paris flower tee $16.90

Add a red shoe to complete the look.

Victoria's Secret peplum jacket $148 and pencil skirt $88; Urban Outfitters crochet tights $14

Add round toe platforms to complete the look.

You can also break up the suit and wear the jacket with black pants or add a different jacket to the skirt.

Local Look: ONLi

I literally stumbled into this chic clothing store (watch your step) as I was walking along The Bishop Arts area of Dallas. Full of eclectic jewelry and clothing from local designers, I fell in love with the one of a kind look and feel of the boutique and the prices are reasonable considering that these are fashions that you won't see at the mall. The owner, Audrie, is engaging and helpful and is also one of the designers. She plans to keep ONLi's style contemporary and modern but is constantly on the lookout for new indie local designers.

Definitely a place to check out, You can visit ONLi at 408 N. Bishop Ave. Suite 104 (214) 943-1352

Top 10 Fashion Don'ts

Courtesy of A-Line Blog:

#10 – Overdosing on accessories
Rings, a necklace, a bracelet, and earrings are overkill. If you are wearing big earrings, don’t wear a necklace. If you wear a necklace, wear modest sized earrings. When in doubt, follow Coco Chanel’s advice: Before you leave the house, take something off.

#9 – Wearing logos, words, or large designs on your booty
If you consider yourself an adult, you should not have big apples, logos, or sayings accross your booty.

Juicy

#8 – Matching Overkill
Your look can be pulled together without having a hot pink shirt, shoes, accessories, and phone case. Opt for pulling your look together with colors and patterns that are in the same color family or be bold and more cutting edge and wear different colors altogether. Just make sure it is subtle and not Punky Brewster inspired.

#7 – Wearing clothes that don’t fit
Whether you are wearing baggy sweats or painted on jeans, either is a fashion/style don’t. Either can make you look heavier than what you are as well. For example, the dreaded Muffin Top syndrome (as seen below). No matter what size you are, you should wear clothes that fit to look your leanest.

#6 – Spending too much money on trends
Trends come and go. What is hot this season can be a fashion don’t the next, so do you really want to spend $1,200 on those harem pants? Instead, invest in quality, timeless pieces like a pencil skirt or a great fitting suit jacket.

#5 – Showing too much skin
I am all for having a little cleavage! But, if you choose to have some of the girls out, then cover up your legs and back. If you want to wear a mini dress and show off your great legs, then don’t wear a low cut or back baring top. Pick one thing to showcase.

#4 – The puffy winter coat
Like the Gortex one George wore on Seinfeld…like the ones our mom’s bought us when we would stand on the bus stop in the morning. As adults, we can have fun with our looks and be stylish. I suggest a wool coat and a cashmere scarf.

#3 – Exposing your thong
This is a big no-no. It can happen to the best of us, though. So, if you want to wear low rise jeans, please have the low rise underwear to match.

#2 – Crocks
‘Nuf said.

#1 – Wearing clothes that you are not comfortable in.
Trust me, it will show. And if you are not comfortable, everyone will notice. There are so many other reasons in life to feel uncomfortable about or worry about. Your clothes should be an expression of you, however.

*I am in agreement with all of these so do not leave me comments telling me how cute Juicy Couture or Victoria's Secret's Pink line is splayed across the butt. Grown women do not need anything drawing attention to our backsides!
