In The Fashionista's Closet

In The Fashionista's Closet:

About the 'fit:

I saw this Adrienne Vittadini shirtdress at Marshalls about two or three years ago, loved the colors but didn't try it on. I saw it at a later date at another Marshalls on sale for $39! I tried it on, it fit great, lovely shirtdress with matching belt. I sometimes switch out the belt to change it up.Another option is to wear this as a jacket, it has great trench coat style button details on the sleeves.

The shoes I actually got from Ross, I don't normally even try on the Dollhouse brand, I think some of their things look too cheap but the quality of these are quite awesome! Plus they were such a great color that I had to!

In The Fashionista's Closet

About the 'fit:

Again with this jacket there is a small pattern on it that you probably cannot see, I love mixing the same colors but a large and small pattern together. I didn't buy these pieces together but I think it works, n'est pas?

Turquoise/white jacket - Rafaella either via Ross or Marshalls
Turquoise/white button down - Nautica
White pencil skirt - Banana Republic *I have had this skirt for years, I'm sure it was on sale when I got it but it has been a staple piece for my summer wardrobe*
Yellow Manolo Blahnik pump - Neiman Marcus Last Call

I adore bright colors and yellow, as well as green is a fave. I saw these pumps at Last Call a couple of years ago, on sale, in my size and my heart fluttered. 'Nuff said.....

Trend Report 2010: African Inspired

Regular readers may remember that I did a post on My Asho a couple of months ago, a site that updates African prints fabrics with modern silhouettes. Well, this seems to be a burgeoning trend as I've encountered a couple more sites that are doing the same, using ethnic prints and reworking them into updated lines.

Hemma

I love this pic on Hemma's website, it is their black and white Asante jacket styled with some other bold African fabrics. This shot is from the April issue of Essence magazine.

Check out Gap's 2010 Fall shoe collection. I want all four of these, especially the boots top left and platform oxford bottom right. No word on when these will be available or the price points but I'll be on the lookout...

In The Fashionista's Closet:

About the 'fit:

Not sure if you can see but this jacket has small yellow dots on it. And the shirt underneath has a sash that ties around the waist. (Seen here.)

*Sigh* Can we talk about how much I ADORE these shoes??? I went to DSW last year looking for some black sandals and when I saw these, all thoughts of black sandals went out the window. I.had.to.have.them.

Yellow dot jacket - Talbot's
White shirt with sash belt - Zara
Men's Mossimo jeans - Target *I had a clothes swap a couple of years ago and someone brought their husband's things and I snatched these up. They are also plenty long which I like but I normally wear them rolled up*
Steve Madden Luxe platform sandal - DSW

On The Platform

Need comfy yet still stylish work alternatives for the summer months? Try a platform wedge, I love these more than a traditional wedge because you have height but they are still walk worthy.

In The Fashionista's Closet:

I love outfit posts but I am always running perpetually late so as I never have time to capture what I wear. As I was doing a wardrobe survey I had the idea to style my outfits flat and take photos. I loved doing this when I helped out the art director on a shoot, no models, just clothes.

About the 'fit:
I fell for this nautical stripe top and paired it with my 70's style wide legged jeans for a sexy sailor-ette look. Popped the look with yellow wedges.

Navy/white striped top with red bow - Zara TRF (Just bought on Saturday for $19.50)
Wide leg high waist jeans - Mango (love these, fitted and looooong length)
Yellow wedge sandals - BCBGirls

*I will change my backdrop and add accessories but I was so excited by my idea that I didn't do that on these first couple of posts!*

Stay Stylish!

Finally! You have been Warned!

I know people type lol all the time when they don't literally laugh out loud but I DID after reading this article about American Apparel putting a Warning Label on their tights! Warning: These tights are not pants labels poke fun at those who insist on showing us their wobbly bits and lady parts without the courtesy of a long top or skirt to cover them and I applaud American Apparel for telling them to Stop the Madness! Lol.

Article via The Gloss

Warning: These Tights Are Not Cute

There’s nothing quite like walking to work, sleep still in your eyes, interpretation of last night’s dream still in your head, coffee in your hand when you’re rudely awaken from your fuzzy state by a dimpled ass thinly veiled in tights or leggings worn as pants.

At first you cringe and scowl. Then, if you don’t hurl into the nearest public garbage can, you text a friend to mock the sorry specimen. Just because Lindsay Lohan lives in them, doesn’t make them proper attire for you. Lohan also drunkenly falls into a wide variety of Southern Californian cacti four or five times a night…you gonna do that, too?

So when it came to my attention that American Apparel was now putting: “WARNING THESE TIGHTS ARE NOT PANTS” on their tights, I was both relieved and bewildered.

Relieved – because there’s a percentage of women out there who don’t thoroughly examine their ass in a mirror before leaving the house and walk out into the world scarring the rest of us with their cottage cheese explosions. Hey, I know I don’t have Kate Hudson’s luscious behind, so why subject innocent bystanders to my less-than-par booty?

However, I was bewildered because it’s American Apparel, a company that prides itself on overt sexuality. Women and men in barely-there get-ups are always plastered all over the largest buildings in every major city. This is also the same company that just conducted a search and subsequent contest for “The Best Bottoms in the World,” and whose President and CEO is none other than the controversial Dov Charney (we could get into the sexual harassment lawsuits against him, but none were proven, and we’re talking tights here).

So why the “warning” on American Apparel tights all of sudden? I’ve got one word: sarcasm. Charney wants his customers to see the warning, shrug, and pull those tights on without any qualms as to the negative effects they’re having on the rest of us, and torture the world around them. Granted, I don’t have any scientific proof, but it does seem to make sense in this gal’s mind. In other words, Charney wants to take on the world one ass at a time, and it’s our responsibility to stop him! Warnings exist for a reason, people, sarcastic or not. So do us a favor and don’t wear tights as pants, and don’t let your friends wear tights as pants…instead, wear them with the shortest skirt in your closet, like the lady you are.
