In The Fashionista's Closet: Baby in a Bar

I wore this ensemble to an open mic night on Wednesday but there was still no open mic at around 11:30 that night so I left and missed the whole thing and I got a parking ticket in the meantime because my meter ran out.
*Le sigh*
I felt that this was the waste of a perfectly good top so I'll be wearing it again hopefully to a more
"Cute Top" worthy spot.
(This is the same top that I'm wearing in my profile photo on the left side of the page with the bangles.)

Top: Zara
Earrings: Forever 21
Clutch: DSW
Jeans: Calvin Klein
Shoes: Steve Madden Luxe

I met a friend at a pool hall (pool hall sounds kind of seedy, it was actually a bar) to watch the Dallas Mavericks/Miami Heat game last night and a kid walks up to me. "Hi Miss B!"

*insert incredulous look here*
It was one of the students from school.

In a bar.

At 11 o'clock at night.

Where they do that at?!?

Apparently in Dallas, Texas, people.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him. "I'm with my aunt" he replied nonchalantly.
"Where is she?"
"Playing pool" he said looking at me like I'm stupid for asking why else would him and his aunt be in a pool hall at 11 o'clock at night.
"Ummmmmkay, well you have a good summer" I stammered as I tried to shield him from looking at the Tasty Adult Beverage in my hand.

This is why I think people should be required to pass a test before having kids and I guess I should amend that to include all family members as well....

Post title inspired by this scene in Sweet Home Alabama:

In The Fashionista's Closet: It's Still Just Kool-Aid

A couple of years ago, (when I was part of a couple) we were friends with another couple and the woman was an attorney. She was very pretentious and would make snide comments about how none of her boyfriend's friends owned property (she lived in an apartment and he lived at home) and how because I worked at Neiman Marcus, everyone there must be 'classy' (incorrect assumption.) The couple eventually got engaged and when we received the invitation it looked like this:

blah blah blah would like to invite you to the wedding of her daughter
Attorney Bride's Name
to
Groom's Name

No, her name is not attorney, she put her JOB TITLE in front of her name on her wedding invitation. I still have the actual invitation but I couldn't figure out how to blur the names, but it was too good to throw out. I'm thinking that if you're inviting someone to your wedding, don't they already know what your occupation is? Notice she didn't put the fiance's job title on the invite, I guess his title wasn't important enough. Fast forward to the week of the wedding and my boyfriend at the time was told that because he didn't RSVP (he was in the wedding party and had been to all wedding related events) that they didn't realize that I was attending and that I could come but I would need to bring money to pay for my meal at the reception. Bring.money.to.pay.for.my.meal.at.the.reception.

There was some serious @#%^#$#$#(&+*** #who does that, is she serious, I thought she was so highfalutin words being said that day. Needless to say I didn't attend.

Vintage jacket and earrings
Jeans: Calvin Klein
Shoes:

(I took these pics before an event on Saturday and then
changed into navy pants to see if I liked the look better. Which look do you prefer?)

Pants: Zara
Assorted bracelets: Forever 21
Shoes: BCBG

Point being, you can dress up Kool-Aid any way you want to, add lemon slices, mix it with other flavors, add ginger ale, but it's all still country, sugary, no good for you, 20 cents a pack Kool Aid. Full discolsure, I love Kool Aid. I just bought some the other day. But I don't pretend that I'm too good for Kool Aid....

So as much as you want to be the "Too Good For You" City Mouse, just be okay with embracing your undeniable Country Mouse. It's ok...I promise

In The Fashionista's Closet: A Word From Our Sponsor

I love coats. Even though I live in Texas and it doesn't get as cold but I am always on the lookout for a great coat. Coats in a colder climate would be more about function than fashion so I'm glad for our not as cold but still cold to me weather.
Vintage coat: Thrifted

I had a meeting with a client today and I truly wish that personal shopping and thrifting were my full time, everyday job. It's so fun for me and people respect and love what I do for them. Services include closet cleanouts, personal shopping, wardrobe revamps and fashion seminars for those who want to step up their game and step outside outside the box or are just too busy or hate (gasp!) to shop.

Whenever I hear this song, it reminds me of my aunt, I remember her singing it and cleaning the house when I was a little girl. I miss her.....

In The Fashionista's Closet: Club Metro

The upside of working at a major retail store during Christmas: cute guys will flirt with you. The downside of working at a major retail store during Christmas: not-so-cute guys will try and flirt with you. From now on I am going to call this place Club Metro because all it needs is a giant disco ball in the center, it feels like a nightclub. If I would have known that all I had to do was work in the men's department of a major retail store, I might have tried this route sooner. Reiko keeps asking me "WHAT are you wearing???" because I have had funny "Girl let me tell you what happened today" guy stories every day so she acts as if I'm strolling around in tube socks and nothing else. I told her maybe it's the hair because it has really been at it's awesomest lately if I do say so myself. It's the shea butter, I tell ya.

I had dinner with a friend and this is what I wore, Reiko helped me put it together via phone, camera phone and instant message (isn't technology grand?)

 Clutch: DSW
 Jeans: Calvin Klein skinny leg
 Top: Zara
Assorted necklaces from Forever 21, chain belts, and vintage thrifted necklace

Boots: Nine West

I had the pleasure of running into not one but TWO readers of Fashion Nette-work over the weekend and I couldn't have been happier! I was so surprised because I think no one ever reads my blog but me and my mom so thanks Dionne and Brandy, you really made my day!
