In The Fashionista's Closet: Schoolgirl Crush(ed)

Ok. Shut up. I said that I would put up my pics even if I didn't particularly like what I was wearing.

Dress: Thrifted

I loved this dress when I got it because I thought it looked like what Marc Jacobs was doing back in 2007-2008. I remember there being plaid and cute detailing. After I looked at my pics today, I laughed out loud. I look like a 10 year old. (But at least it's not a schoolmarm, right?) Everyone kept telling me I looked like a schoolgirl today and I thought it was a compliment. I see now it was not. It just doesn't seem flattering and most of all, it looks, say it with me now: "BO-RING!"

I'm not even sure I want to do a "What I Should Have Worn" because I may burn this dress. Or I may style an outfit around the shoes. So I am off to redeem myself for tomorrow.....*Big Sigh*

One Man's Rummage.....

A couple of months ago someone sent me an email to a rummage sale that was being held the following day. I felt the hairs on my neck stand up because any type of garage sale, rummage sale, thrifting excursion is right up my alley. I rose early that morning and was fortunate enough to be one of the first few people there. I scored some ridiculous designer items:

I ended up with some great items, (not all are pictured) and helped other shoppers find some things as well, I think some people thought that I worked there. Because of my helpfulness, (or maybe it was pity), the kind cashier gave me all of my fabulous items for a mere $40 when it probably should have been well over $150 and that's not even taking into account what the items cost retail.

 
I know that some people sneer at the thought of wearing someone else's pre-worn items and that's fine, it just means more for me! I consider it an adventure to find fabulous things at awesome prices, just be sure to check for any holes, tears or rips and try things on. There was no dressing room at the rummage sale but I pre-planned and wore loose clothing and made myself a "dressing area" to try on items and checked the fit in a mirror propped up on a chair. Also, be sure to look for items in different sections, I found some men's Bill Blass shirts that I love and men's jeans that I wear rolled up for the "boyfriend" look. Check Craigslist, church announcements, the newspaper or word of mouth to find garage sales, rummage sales and thrift stores to whet your recession-friendly shopping appetite!

In The Fashionista's Closet: Graphic Artist

I decided to wear jeans today. Too bad it was a million degrees out, you may be able to see the beads of sweat on my brow in some of the pictures.

I had a teaching job interview yesterday (I KNOW, I just started looking!) and color me excited for even being called in.

I had no time to take pics but I like to be relatively conservative for interviews so I wore black wide leg pants, black pumps, a white button down shirt, of course a bold necklace and carried a green handbag.

But apparently I was the only one who decided to be conservative because of the other two women there for interviews, one had on a low cut, short, sleeveless dress with flat sandals and the other had a light brown and black striped hair weave that resembled a skunk.

I'm all for personal expression but sometimes you just can't show all of your hand at once. You need to ease into some things. It was literally STRIPED! For a job interview? I couldn't begin to tell you what she had on because I was so outdone by the hair.

I really wish someone would bear witness to all of the tomfoolery I encounter because the stories are so outlandish. I used to work at a truancy court and a parent came to court with coins glued onto her hair. Currency, people. A nickel, a dime, some pennies all glued onto her updo hairstyle. I guess she needed a change! Get it? A change? Because she had the....oh, never mind!

 Hopefully I will find out about the teaching position soon.....

Fast Forward: Marc Jacobs Spring 2008

Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 Ready to Wear line sadly does not rock my world. Featuring deconstructed flowy fabrics with mix and match styles, I cannot see even the boldest fashionista wearing these designs.

After the hype surrounding Spanish designers requiring models to have a certain body mass index, I was hoping the U.S. designers would follow suit. No such luck after seeing this abnormally thin model at Jacobs' show:
