Lowered Expectations

I recently said to someone that I don't want to live a life of lowered expectations. Expecting that people can't be what you need them to be. I don't want to expect less of people in both friendships and romantic relationships.

In The Fashionista's Closet: Kriss Kross

Remember the rap duo, Kriss Kross known for wearing their clothes backwards in the early 90's? Yeah that's me (and the kid from Reed Between the Lines, he always wears his jeans inside out.) I wore this cardigan look for the first time when I was in Houston, here are a couple of pics that were taken then:

Me with Reiko's little fashionista stepdaughter (she says that she's not stylish but she will definitely give her opinion on what she doesn't like, lol!)

Cardigan (Worn Backwards): Forever 21
Clutch: DSW
Pants: Diane vonFurstenburg
Shoes: Michael Kors

Me with my ace, God's Favorite Shoes.

I wore the look again when I ventured out to the Dallas Museum of Art with a couple of friends to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. It was surreal, a little creepy and....breathtaking. I literally gasped when I went into the last room of the exhibition.

No photographs were allowed and they were watching us like hawks to make sure that we didn't take any either. The jewelry that they used to style the looks was Ba-na-nas *in Rachel Zoe voice.*
I wanted to cry at the fact that I couldn't take pics, it was so inspiring.

BUT I couldn't have taken pics even if I wanted to because when it was time for me to take these pics, my camera battery was...dead. Thanks to Bethany for doing me a solid and using her camera phone to take my photos.

Conversation with a friend about my cardi:

Him: Is your sweater on backwards?
Me: Yep.
Him: You did that on purpose?
Me: Yeah. You don't like it?
Him: It's definitely....different....it's you.
Me: Ummm hmmm.
Him: Can guys do that or is this just for women?
Me: I don't want ANY dude doing this...
Him: 'Cept maybe Kanye.
Me: LOL! Yeah Kanye can rock it....

Earrings: Aldo
Jeans: Mango
Clutch: Rummage Sale
Shoes: Jessica Simpson Waleo

If you have a minute, check out the video of JPG at the DMA. The exhibition, "From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" runs until February 12, 2012.

In The Fashionista's Closet: Bowling and B'Day (Continued)

Some of you may remember this jacket that Reiko thrifted in the boys department but what she didn't tell you was that it was for ME! The perfect jacket to wear on my birthday!
As I was getting ready for my Birthday Nite Out, I asked myself:

I met some friends for bowling, food and TABs (tasty adult beverages) and had a great time.

Just a little fyi, I am going to wear this jacket again this week to school so don't be surprised!

I haven't been bowling in years but guess what????

I WON!

Yummy italian cream cake (my fave!)

I won't tell you what I wished for but hopefully it involves a new position and something l've been aching to do for a loooooonnnggg time.....

Of course I mean a teaching position, what were YOU thinking, silly?

Jacket: Thrfited from Reiko I.Love.It.The.MOST!
Striped shirt: Thrifted
High waist jeans: Mango
Clutch: Thrifted (I heart it!)
Boots: I cannot remember, honestly, I've had them forever

Thank you to everyone for the well wishes, good thoughts and blessings that were sent my way for my birthday, I can't WAIT to see what 39 brings!

In The Fashionista's Closet: Maxi-mum Cool

Anyone who has seen me multiple times this summer (or last) may think to themselves "She surely loves that dress" and that is because I do! I don't have to iron it, it's long (I enjoy long dresses) and it has what? *All together now*.... POCKETS! My friend Sonya and I saw this dress and I urged her to try it on but she said it wasn't her style so I tried it on and had to get it. It is surprisingly cool even on warmer days and I can throw on boots, my denim jacket or a cardigan in the cooler temps. I wore the jacket because we were inside most of the day and took it off outside so I wouldn't pass out in this Texas heat.

In other news, I have been extremely frustrated and irritated with the way that things are going lately. I made a plan of what I wanted to do and how I would achieve it and all kinds of wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers have been thrown into the plan. (AND I also decided to give up bread for two weeks so I'm sure that plays a huge factor in my irritable-ness.) I know that this is a temporary situation with long term results so I am looking forward to sharing my testimony after surviving the test. I am obtaining my alternative certification to teach and will be eligible to teach once school begins but have to survive until then. I call this "my summer of living dangerously" because there has been no back-up plan or wealthy benefactor, just my jewelry sales and awesome friends and family helping me to realize my dream. You never know what you can live without until you have to. And although I get anxious sometimes, I believe that if I stay focused, things will come to fruition.

"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4

So if you get a moment, please send a kind thought or prayer my way or if you're so inclined, send a check, I am not averse to donations at this point!

*I will still continue my personal shopping, styling business and will continue to sell jewelry and host fashion events so if you are interested in one or all, please let me know.*

AND now back to our regularly scheduled program.....

But THIS makes me happy:

This is Star. She sat next to me at training and looked cute while doing so. I couldn't stop staring at her ring and fab shoes!

In The Fashionista's Closet:

I love outfit posts but I am always running perpetually late so as I never have time to capture what I wear. As I was doing a wardrobe survey I had the idea to style my outfits flat and take photos. I loved doing this when I helped out the art director on a shoot, no models, just clothes.

About the 'fit:
I fell for this nautical stripe top and paired it with my 70's style wide legged jeans for a sexy sailor-ette look. Popped the look with yellow wedges.

Navy/white striped top with red bow - Zara TRF (Just bought on Saturday for $19.50)
Wide leg high waist jeans - Mango (love these, fitted and looooong length)
Yellow wedge sandals - BCBGirls

*I will change my backdrop and add accessories but I was so excited by my idea that I didn't do that on these first couple of posts!*

Stay Stylish!
