Kitten Heels, Got My Life, and Staying Positive

Please forgive the blurriness that are my photos, my photographer was not focused (focused, ha!), she was trying to text and take photos at the same time so now she is on probation.
(Can you place someone on probation if you're not paying them?)...oh, okay...

The New York Times: Pose For The Camera Now, Click Click

The story of how my trip came to be: It was about a month and a half ago and I was on People.com and they were asking for submissions for your must-have accessory. I submitted my photo (this one) and named my bracelets (of course) as my must have accessory which is such the truth. I think people were supposed to vote on submissions but I didn't think anything else about it until I was contacted by People about a month later letting me know that I was a finalist in the contest. Oh em geeeeeeeeeeee, what?!? I didn't even know what the prize was until they contacted me. I had to submit notarized information that I was who I said I was (Catfish, anyone?) and they completed a background check and then I was notified that I was one of four winners of the People magazine Bic For Her contest! I remember seeing the email on the last day of summer school and I could barely contain my excitement! I couldn't believe it and called my mom immediately. She was so excited even though I told her that I wasn't going to tell many people yet. She thought that I was crazy but I guess because it didn't feel real to me so I just wanted to let it marinate for a bit.

The winners of the contest (us four in the middle), the marketing team, People Inc.

Dead End

One last post before I'm off to the NYC. I think at this point I would pay someone to choose and pack my oufits for me, I hate packing! Prolly because I am limited as to what I can bring, I love to have options and my carryon will not let me be great.

You guys know that I love music. I listen to everything but lately my musical taste leans toward the
" urban contemporary"...

Pajama Jam!

I scored these pants from the thrift store. I think they are pajamas. But I don't care. They make me feel like I'm on vacation in a tropical location. Or one of those ladies who lunches. Which is where I wore them. To lunch, not a tropical vacation...*sigh*...

In The Fashionista's Closet: Pete and Repeat (2 Outfit Posts)

Running errands outfit, planned on doing lots of walking so I needed *gasp* flats, lol. I do wear flats more often in my real life lately, some days call for flats.

Tx Style Council In Review: Part Uno

I met up with the Louise to my Thelma (I'm Thelma because Thelma got to sleep with Brad Pitt in the movie but he was cute Brad Pitt back then, not the sad, rundown looking Brad Pitt that he is today. That dang Angelina and her bushel of offspring got him looking all sorts of haggard. But I digress...) and we sashayed our way to Austin to attend the Tx Style Council Bloggers Conference.
Wearing my complimentary bracelets c/o In Pink. I was looking for them to thank them but couldn't find them in the crush of people.

We attended the Posh Party on Saturday night hosted by Poshmark.

(Reiko, Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely and me)
I was giddy to be in the same city as my ultimate crush, Shawn Corey Carter aka Jay-Z, he was in town to perform at SXSW. I was hoping to run into him at some obsecure out of the way place but no haps. Reiko thinks that it's weird that I know his middle name, is that weird? I just think you need to know the people that you have crushes on, that's all.

Spinning the wheel at the Lulu's table
I met some cool peeps, hung out with some cool peeps that I met last year and made the most of the chilly, rainy weather that descended on Austin and had me scrambling to put together an outfit that would not have my catching the pneumonia. Yes. The pneumonia.

Glasses: Ray Ban
Tee shirt: Target
Moto Jacket: Target
Skirt: H&M
I.love.this.skirt.period. The metallic-y-ness (Yes I know that's not a word.) The pleated-ness. (Again, I know.) The silver lamè-ness of it all. (Can't wait to style it differently.)
Clutch: DSW
Tights: Spanx
Shoes: Michael Kors

Me doing what I do. Reiko is used to my antics now...
Me, Kyla of Blue Collar Catwalk and Sarah.
(Sarah I lost your card to link your blog, please let me know the name of it!)

I will be discussing my impressions of the conference, Texas Style Council and other conversations/topics that I felt should could have been addressed at the conference in a future post. Stay tuned.....

In The Fashionista's Closet: Kriss Kross

Remember the rap duo, Kriss Kross known for wearing their clothes backwards in the early 90's? Yeah that's me (and the kid from Reed Between the Lines, he always wears his jeans inside out.) I wore this cardigan look for the first time when I was in Houston, here are a couple of pics that were taken then:

Me with Reiko's little fashionista stepdaughter (she says that she's not stylish but she will definitely give her opinion on what she doesn't like, lol!)

Cardigan (Worn Backwards): Forever 21
Clutch: DSW
Pants: Diane vonFurstenburg
Shoes: Michael Kors

Me with my ace, God's Favorite Shoes.

I wore the look again when I ventured out to the Dallas Museum of Art with a couple of friends to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. It was surreal, a little creepy and....breathtaking. I literally gasped when I went into the last room of the exhibition.

No photographs were allowed and they were watching us like hawks to make sure that we didn't take any either. The jewelry that they used to style the looks was Ba-na-nas *in Rachel Zoe voice.*
I wanted to cry at the fact that I couldn't take pics, it was so inspiring.

BUT I couldn't have taken pics even if I wanted to because when it was time for me to take these pics, my camera battery was...dead. Thanks to Bethany for doing me a solid and using her camera phone to take my photos.

Conversation with a friend about my cardi:

Him: Is your sweater on backwards?
Me: Yep.
Him: You did that on purpose?
Me: Yeah. You don't like it?
Him: It's definitely....different....it's you.
Me: Ummm hmmm.
Him: Can guys do that or is this just for women?
Me: I don't want ANY dude doing this...
Him: 'Cept maybe Kanye.
Me: LOL! Yeah Kanye can rock it....

Earrings: Aldo
Jeans: Mango
Clutch: Rummage Sale
Shoes: Jessica Simpson Waleo

If you have a minute, check out the video of JPG at the DMA. The exhibition, "From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" runs until February 12, 2012.

In The Fashionista's Closet: Berry Good

I.love.these.pants.

The end. That's all I have to say.

Ok, you know that's not ALL I have to say. These pants are long and fit in the waist, two things I hardly ever find straight off the rack. If I could have gotten them in all colors I should would have. Also the fabric is fluid so they move when I walk and I find many places to walk while wearing these. And they came from one of my fave places to shop, Zara.

I think that people don't realize my love for all things Zara. If I had a daughter, I would name her Zara. After the store. Maybe with an h on the end to make it classy.
(Ha! I told yall I hate when people say something is "classy" because it's usually so not.)

But at least her name won't be Cristal, like the Champagne , Alize or White Zinfandel.

Top: H&M
Scarf: Random store in the mall
Pants: ZARA (You can now order online!)
Shoes: Michael Kors

Have a safe and beautiful Thanksgiving Holiday!

In The Fashionista's Closet: Green with Gratitude

I attended church with Reiko last Sunday and it was a good time. Can I say that? The men's choir sang a song that had me swaying in my seat, it was a cross between Bobby Blue Bland (look him up) and a (clean) version of Clarence Carter (look him up too.)

Dress: H&M (one of my fave buys from my Atlanta trip)
Tights: Target (last year, I want some more but can't find them)
Clutch: DSW
Shoes: Michael Kors

Sunday's service was about being a good steward over little things and God will continue to bless you with more. I can definitely relate to this because I used to think that I never made enough money.

Whatever position I held was more money than the last (except subbing, that was a lesson in penny pinching) but it was never enough. But I realized that it wasn't the amount of money that I made, it was what I was choosing to do with what I had.

If you're not being responsible over what you currently have, then you'll never have enough or make enough to ever be satisfied.

So I hope to never lose sight of that even though I ALWAYS want new shoes, lol.

“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much." Luke 16:10

I want to always be grateful....

Adventures In the A: Part 5 *Is This the End?

Post Title refers to a New Edition song, they were my first concert .*shut up*

Our time in ATL came to a close but we had to get a little more Georgia fun thrown in before we flew back!
Me with Cherie of Nappy Rutz
We went to brunch at Highland Bakery where we had the shrimp and grits, if you go please get the jalepeno focaccia bread that comes with it, it is delish!
Yall know I wanted to throw up the peace sign but I was trying to do right....

 ...it didn't work....

 dancing me....
I'm sorry if you come to my blog expecting model-esque poses, I try to do right.
Sometimes...

Sunglasses: Pitaya (Dallas store); Necklaces: Assorted; Top: H&M; Jeans: Marshalls; Shoes: Michael Kors; Bag: Prada

We went to the Atlanta Arts Festival at Piedmont Park checked out the artists wares and saw THE most beautiful dude. I'm serious... He was, well...beautiful is the best word that I can use to describe him. He had a whole "I'm so unaffected by my beautiful self, starving artist, poet, just got out of jail" type vibe. I threw in the "just got out of jail" thing because that made me giggle...

WHY is this woman laughing? Because she knows that I am taking a picture of the beautiful dude!

Don't leave me comments asking why didn't I talk to him, he was with a chick. Who was....ummmmm...let's just say she could have spruced herself up if she was gonna be hanging out with a beautiful dude. But she's probably real nice though.

THIS is what happens when you overpack and have to open up your bag at the airport after trying to stuff your recent purchases into an already overstuffed bag. Niiiiiiiccccceeeeeee, huh?

And on top of that, there were storms in Dallas and my flight couldn't land so we had to fly to Houston to refuel and then fly back to Dallas and I got home at 1:15 am and get up at 5 am to go to work the next day.

I survived Atlanta, it was interesting, fun and with a little adventure thrown in, just like me!
