Fro Real

Check out Janet Jackson promoting her new album, "Twenty Y.O." in Chicago with a Minoritees tee shirt on. I saw the pic on CNN.com and immediately thought, "Where have I seen that before?" and went on a mad search in my bookmark folder. Voila!

Here are a couple of other sites that sell afrolicious items:

Have Your Cake

Singer Kelis is starting her own clothing line. Called "Cake" the fashion line will imitate Kelis' eclectic style but still be wearable. Kelis has a history of designing her own outfits for videos and shows and plans to take a hands on approach when it comes to creating her line. What do you think? Do you think that there are too many stars with clothing lines? Based on Kelis' free spirited approach to fashion, would you plan on buying anything from her line? I, for one, am looking forward to it, I want to see what she does next!

The Necessary Accessories

Fashion isn't all about clothes, the right accessories can make a look pop. I look for accessories everywhere, online, malls, thrift stores, garage sales. Accessories can change an outfit that you've worn a million times and make it look new. So even if you don't want to spend money for a new outfit, you can rock your look with adornments.

Dior Glossy sunglasses in brown $230, Nicole Miller Haircalf Waistbelt $125, Zoe sterling silver with chocolate brown, orange and aqua ring $67.00, Viktoria Hayman wood bead necklace $40.99, Elsa Peretti sterling silver cuff $525, Mod choker $16.50, Marlene hammered brass cuff $48, Xenos metal disc earrings $4.99.

New Fashion - Savvy Songtresses

These singers are a new crop of chanteuses that I wanted to profile because of their look as well as their sound.

Conya Doss is a former teacher of special needs children turned artist. She is has been classidied as neo-soul but doesn't want to define her sound because as she puts it "it narrows your audience." Her bohemian style appeals to me and her bold accessories and makeup are fierce. She is an artist who has been recognized mainly through word of mouth. Her third cd, "Love Rain Down" will be released on October 17th and you can hear excerpts at http://www.conyadoss.net/

Whimsy is what I think of when I think of Corinne Bailey Rae. Her ballet flats and floaty dresses match well with her voice and lyrics. She recently released her first self titled cd to wide acclaim and recently won two MOBO awards for Best UK Newcomer and Best UK Female. Go to http://www.corinnebaileyrae.net/ for more info.

Tell Me About It!

For those who watched America's Next Top Model, what are your thoughts? Are you happy with who was chosen? Any predictions for who should be the next to go? I for one am already upset that LeAngela (afro chick) wasn't chosen over one of those ghostly looking twins. I like AJ's edginess (black spiky hair) and Brooke has a cute personality. (Maybe it's because she's from Texas?!) Eugena reminds me of Jill Marie Jones from Girlfriends and Megg looks like Mayim Bialik (Blossom!)

Megg and Megan

Monique (Diva) and A.J.

Amanda (Casper Twin) and Michelle (Casper Twin)

Eugena (Toni Childs) and Anchal

Jaeda (You looka like a man) and Brooke

Melrose and CariDee

Boot Camp

I LOVE boots! Hopefully I will get to wear them this winter in Dallas, last winter was very mild. But for those of you lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to have real winters, here are some high and low end examples of the new military inspired footwear:

Marc Jacobs multi strap leather boot in tan ($1,350) at Net-a-porter.
BP "Julie" boot at Nordstrom in dark brown ($109.95.)
Michael Kors "Roslyn" platform boot in chocolate ($329.)
Victoria's Secret faux lace up boot ($128) in brown and black.
Juicy Couture "Jane" boot at Nordstrom ($550) in Cameo Costa.

It's That Time Again!

Tonight is the premier of the 7th Cycle of America's Next Top Model on the new CW Network. There have been pics of some of the models online and I don't know if the ones shown are the top thirteen that will move into the house, but I am not posting the pics because I would rather be surprised at who is chosen. Time for the ANTM parties, ladies!

Here is a pic of last year's winner, Danielle Evans with Nigel, one of ANTM's judges. (pic courtesy of concrete loop)

Getting The Skinny Part 2

Alright naysayers, about this skinny jean thing: I want to wear skinny jeans with boots only, not the whole ballet flat/heel thing. I don't think that they are a flattering look for everyone but I think that a majority of us can wear this look successfully:

Your thoughts on THESE looks?

Playing Dress Up

I am such a girly girl and my friends will attest that I LOVE dresses! All of these caught my eye because of the great details that they have. I could see myself wearing all of these.

Ingwa; melero "Jersey Gwai Maxi" red & black dress $350; Rachel Roy black "Layla" dress $447; Anthropologie "Sun Dance" dress $198; Angel Sleeve Open Back Wrap dress in mustard $57 (reminds me of Tracee Ellis Ross); Green Rachel Roy "Layla Long Dress" $456

Getting the Skinny

Skinny denim does not have to replace your favorite jeans but can serve as an alternative to denim duty. I am enjoying the look of skinny jeans tucked into knee high boots but am unable to rock the skinny jean/ballet flat look. (I know that my personal bias plays into this a lot but I do not think that skinny jeans can be worn the same way for every body type even if some mags insist that this is true.) Now because this is a trendy item, I would skimp on price in this instance and have found some cheap options.

Gap Skinny Fit $58 (available in petite and long)

Casey Low Rise Skinny
$48.50 at Delia's (available in petite and long)

Target Mossimo Red Skinny Tulip Jeans $19 (sizes 1 -17)
