In The Fashionista's Closet: All Wrapped Up

Now that the time has changed I have a small window of time to take my pics after work before it gets dark and I'm missing the mark lately. The photos in my hallway are too dark in my opinion so I came out to the landing area this evening.

Coat: Banana Republic
Bag: Kooba
I subbed an art class today and one of the kinder kids used WAAAAYYYYY too much glue and got glue on my skirt and sweater. Had.to.resist.the.urge.to.strangle.him. But thankfully (for his sake) it came out.

Sweater: Zara
Skirt: Banana Republic
Boots: Juicy Couture

Earrings: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted

Now on to the hair. This is from a twistout on its last legs. I applied Palmer's Hair Milk as a moisturizer and combed it out with a wide tooth comb then used Eco Styler gel for the edges and rolled it. I used hair combs and bobby pins. I call this my Shug Avery look from The Color Purple (greatest movie ever btw!)

I actually saw this YouTube tutorial last week but because I like to research and practice a style before I wear it out, I wasn't going to try it today. UNTIL Reiko said that I like to research EVERYTHING (which is partly true) so I threw caution to the wind and tried it.

It turned out okay for the first time, I really felt like I looked like my mom, she used to wear here hair like this "back in the day!"

Oh and please head over to the Trendy Socialite and watch her video inspired by lil ole me!

Yay or Nay? Jessica Simpson Dany Platforms

***UPDATE*** I forgot to add a pic of one of my favorite peeps Dahlia of Mz. Fashion Closet, she has the Dany platforms in both colors! Her shoe game is ridic!!!

I really like the look of the Jessica Simpson Dany platforms, I think they are reminiscent of a 70's vibe but I am concerned that the heel is so high, I am 5'8 and I love a heel but I don't want to look like a giant or that I'm teetering when I walk. So, what say you, Yay or Nay on these?

Available at Zappos for $79.16 (On Sale!)

After looking for more photos of this shoe, apparently lots of ladies already love this shoe!

In The Fashionista's Closet: Club Metro

The upside of working at a major retail store during Christmas: cute guys will flirt with you. The downside of working at a major retail store during Christmas: not-so-cute guys will try and flirt with you. From now on I am going to call this place Club Metro because all it needs is a giant disco ball in the center, it feels like a nightclub. If I would have known that all I had to do was work in the men's department of a major retail store, I might have tried this route sooner. Reiko keeps asking me "WHAT are you wearing???" because I have had funny "Girl let me tell you what happened today" guy stories every day so she acts as if I'm strolling around in tube socks and nothing else. I told her maybe it's the hair because it has really been at it's awesomest lately if I do say so myself. It's the shea butter, I tell ya.

I had dinner with a friend and this is what I wore, Reiko helped me put it together via phone, camera phone and instant message (isn't technology grand?)

 Clutch: DSW
 Jeans: Calvin Klein skinny leg
 Top: Zara
Assorted necklaces from Forever 21, chain belts, and vintage thrifted necklace

Boots: Nine West

I had the pleasure of running into not one but TWO readers of Fashion Nette-work over the weekend and I couldn't have been happier! I was so surprised because I think no one ever reads my blog but me and my mom so thanks Dionne and Brandy, you really made my day!

In The Fashionista's Closet: All Black Everything

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I have been feeling really down this week. I didn't pass my exam that would have enabled me to get a teaching job with a school and grade level that I wanted to work with. I am beyond bummed. I was looking forward to it in the worst way.

I also have the worst wake-you-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night sore throat and cold symptoms so I haven't worked out all week and feel pretty lousy.

 Black sweater: Ralph Lauren
Black pants: Club Monaco
Earrings: Resale shop
Belt: Target
 Ballet flats: Chanel

I took these pics quickly on my way to my part time job. Sorry it's not more exciting, the dress code is all black so I wanted to pop the look with bits of color.

I love these earrings, I found three great pair at a resale shop while going to Wendy's to cop some of their new fries. If you haven't tried them, get.on.that.now. Delish!

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving, my time with my family will be super short as I have to work Black Friday at 5:45 am (yikes!) But at least I'll get to feel some of my mom's great hugs, they're the best!

The Search Is Over!

So here's the scenario: I went to the thrift store looking for a full slip to wear when I saw them.

Yes, THEM. Not one, not two, but THREE crinolines, all feathery and fabulous.

This one is long and has a satin trim at the bottom.
And how much were these little babies? Take a look:

That's right, $3.99 each! I had to get them all, it was IMPERATIVE.

Now you know my love and desire for a crinoline (see here, here, and here) so this is MAY-JAH. I want to hang one as decor (I am so serious), dye one black and leave the short one just the way it is.

Here is my crinoline inspiration:

  And real world style:
Love her dress, hate her mess (Lisa Loves You)

Sea of Shoes when I could relate to her outfits.

(Not sure if she has a crinoline on underneath but I would totally rock mine with this skirt.)

(loves her)

I want to play dress up everyday and wear my crinoline underneath EVERYthing. It demands it. Don't you agree?

In The Fashionista's Closet: Up By The Boot Straps

 Aaaaahhhh, blessed blessed Friday.

 Coat: Ann Taylor Loft

I got this coat about 8 years ago and I almost had to fight over it because a woman had taken it off of the hold rack and was trying it on as I was returning to the store. I had asked them to hold it until I was on my way out of the mall so I wouldn't have to lug it with me but luckily I came in in the nick of time and there were no fisticuffs. Crisis averted!

These boots zip up the back, forgot to get a shot....

Doing something new by adding these BAPs (Big Azz Pictures, I'm the queen of acronyms) let me know if you like them this large or not.

Dress: Thrifted (Previously seen here)
Belt: Thrifted
Boots: Juicy Couture

In The Fashionista's Closet: Comfort is Key

I needed to wear something comfy today, I had to take an exam so I needed to be able to layer in case it was too hot/too cold AND wear my flat boots for the comfortable-ness factor. I am hoping to be certified in another area to teach and I should have the results back in 2-3 days. *Fingers, toes, and eyes are crossed!*

I found this scarf in the hallway of my apartment when I was moving in. I knocked on several doors trying to find the owner but no one claimed it. Don't judge me. (I washed it.)
Boots: Marshalls

Yesterday I subbed for a first grade class that I've never had before and I swore I saw Lucifer himself in their eyes. There were pencils thrown and hitting kids in the head, one kid could not read a sentence out loud but he wrote the B word on his paper AND spelled it correctly. There was a little girl with blue hair weave, a kid named Walter (who names a kid Walter?) and a little girl that I suspect stole my 75 cents off the desk.

 Coat: Club Monaco

But the highlight of my time (sentence?) was the brother of the kid from Andre/De'Andre fame. He kept finding excuses to touch me and I finally realized that he liked my sweater. (Seen here. No pics yesterday, sorry.) He kept saying "It's soft. It feels so comfortable." Fast forward to later that day and my friend's four year niece touched the sweater and said, "I like your sweater. It feels comfortable" so I guess the word of the day is 'comfortable.'

Jacket previously seen here.

I wasn't planning on mixing patterns today but I'm glad it worked out that way, I've been obsessing over it. Here's a couple of pics of my thrifting partner in crime and her mix of prints:

So cute!

By the way, for those of you who watch Fantasia's reality show, Fantasia For Real on VH-1, I ran into her Aunt Bunny today while out looking for earrings. I had forgotten that she was from Dallas. She was so sweet and down to earth. I figure this meeting brings Reiko closer to Oprah since Fantasia knows Oprah so we're almost there! My friend Deatrice is mad that I didn't give her phone number to Aunt Bunny to give to Fantasia because she loves Fantasia but I'm thinking Fantasia might be a little busy right now, Trice.

I will announce the winner of the Fashion Nette-work/Designer Chatter Giveaway tomorrow!

In The Fashionista's Closet: Peachy Keen

I felt very "sexy secretary" today, I think because I rarely wear anything too fitted these days. I've had a boost of confidence since I started working out and now I'm back into my favorite jeans.

Coat: Marshalls
Turtleneck: Zara
Pencil Skirt: Thrifted
Tights: Target (You can't see them but they're striped and textured)
Shoes: Michael Kors
Bag: Thrifted

I was so in love with my hair today even though it lost some of its definition. This was a twistout done on dry hair using shea butter mixed with grapeseed oil. I used to use shea butter regularly and I've been out of it for months so I think that's why I have been so frustrated with my hair and the disastrous results. Today I had big, soft moisturized hair, just like I like it! (Even though my mom calls me Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons when I wear my hair big like this.)

Now look at Bob. Now back to me. Now back to Bob. See the resemblance? It's okay, it just means Bob uses shea butter too! (If you have no clue as to what I'm talking about with my hair, please proceed to the next sentence.)

Two things I keep wearing like they're going out of style:

1. My chain belts/vintage necklace layered look, they go with everything!

2. These Michael Kors platforms, I heart them! They are comfy too!

Don't forget to enter the Fashion Nette-work/Designer Chatter Giveaway, tomorrow's the last day!
