Black Girl Problems

Of course this title made me giggle as I typed it.....

I was reading an excerpt of Mindy Kaling's book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" (she's hilarious btw, you should watch The Mindy Project if you don't) and Amazon.com suggested the book "White Girl Problems". I read an excerpt of that too (not as funny as Mindy) but it got me to thinking about Black Girl Problems....

Dress: H&M
Polka dot tights: H&M
Glasses: Warby Parker
Bracelets: Various
Boots:  Marshalls
 Bag: (seen below) Zara

Black Girl Problem: When your headscarf that you wear at night to tie your hair down leaves that line on your forehead the next day. Just me???? Ummmkay......

Black Girl Problem: When you can't find jeans that fit both in the booty and the waist. I guess this is more of a big booty problem than a black girl problem but it has always been a complaint of mine. I think with the invention(?) of booty injections and implants that more people have this problem these days so I guess it's not strictly a BGP.

Black Girl Problem: When you secretly watch shows like Love & Hip Hop, Preachers of L.A., and Houston Beauty but you won't talk about them with those of the Caucasian persuasion because you think ok, know that they portray black people in a negative light. I had a co-worker ask me if I had seen a Tyler Perry movie on the opening weekend and I acted as if I didn't even know who Tyler Perry was. It's like you complaining about your brother being an a-hole but no one else can complain about your brother because, well, he's your brother.

Black Girl Problem: Finding fashion forward Christmas cards. With a cute black girl on it. I do this hunt every year (well, not every year, it's been a couple of years since I've mailed out Christmas cards) but I love being able to find cute, fashionable Christmas cards that do not have kente cloth or a Bible verse on them for black people. Not that I'm anti-kente cloth or Bible verses, but where are the black fashionable ladies Christmas cards? I did find some at Target one year.(Preferably with natural hair but you can't have everything.) I had a friend (who was white) who asked why I cared about looking for a black Santa Claus since she's never seen a black Santa Claus at the mall but I told her that's because she is used to being represented. I want a representation of something that looks like me. #BlackGirlProblems

Black Girl Problem: When people assume that you listen to ratchet music and you realize....you do.
Did I leave out any Black Girl Problems? Tell me!

LOL...I miss you when you don't post. You give me the best laughs. You look fab as always!!

P.S. I didn't know Santa wasn't black until I was 12. Growing up in the hood he was black and flew a helicopter. LOL

Black Girl Problems: I love reading your posts! How about when your head scarf falls of and ruins your hair style for the next day. Don't get me started with the Christmas cards:)

PZI Jeans (www.pzijeans.com) are made specifically for people who can't get a nice fit in the waist and the hip because their waist is much smaller. They are a nice fit!

Girl that green is working for you in every way.

What I couldn't understand growing up was why black Santa had to wear a cheap red cotton broad cloth suit when white Santa had that nice expensive fuzzy suit. And why was black Santa's beard raggedy? White Santa had a nice fluffy beard. lol

I love your blogs. They give me much life and even more laughter. You are my best girlfriend...in my head (LOL). Black girl problems: Listening to "them" explain how much they love Brad Pitt, Channing Tatum, or some other fine white dude that we all know and even, perhaps, agree to being fine-or at least not too hard on the eyes- you know give credit where credit is due. However, when I explain just how much I love fine *** Idris Elba, or Don Cheadle, or Larez Tate, or Michael Ealy, or Morris Chestnut, or Boris Kodjoe, or Common, they say, "Who?" They have no idea. Ugh, that burns me...but that's a black girl's problem.

You my friend have just brought about a briliant business venture idea!!! Fashion forward, cute, Black Woman holiday cards?!?! Genius!!!! DO IT!!! I'm not kidding Juantette!! You see all of the exclamations that I'm typing here?! That means I'm serious -__o

My BGP with the scarf is that I tie my knot too tight sometimes and it gives me a headache right at the nape of my neck.

Another BGP is the little "nap balls" as my Granny so affectionately called them, that form in my "kitchen" (another Granny hair term), and I don't know they're there until I get to work and can't cut them off!

That green is a FAB color on you!!
