I Am Not A Model, And I Don't Play One On T.V.

I am a real woman with curves. I am not a size 2. I have hips and a butt (that I have grown to love, this wasn't always so.) I used to get embarassed if someone mentioned my "big ole butt."

But now I love my booty. I check it out in the mirror all the time. Especially at the gym....

I work out at the gym about 5 days a week, one or two days a week with weights (8 and 15 lbs) and using the machines. Most days I will take a class, I try to switch it up so that my body won't get complacent. I take hip hop dance classes, Zumba (just really getting into Zumba, not my fave), and Turbo Kick. I swear those hip hop classes have me thinking that I can be a video girl! As soon as 2 Live Crew gets back together, I'm auditioning to be Main Video Girl. #Promise.

I really like my body these days because I feel strong. Mentally and physically. I don't say that to sound like a braggart, this has been a long road to accept my body without a "If only." If only my *fill in the blank* were bigger/smaller/more this/less that then I could love it.
A few years ago, I became used to hiding in my clothes. I didn't want to draw unwanted attention to myself. I think I was the original Man Repeller, lol. But now I like who I am. Working out consistently has helped me with that. I have worked out in spurts before now, rollerblading, kickboxing, running on the treadmill but I think that the diversity of the classes at the gym is what helps me stay on track.
I think of working out as a relationship, you have to put in the work to get the results that you want. There is no quick fix.

My body isn't perfect. But it's been kind to me. And don't get me wrong, I still have my moments . But I accept it. For all that it is. Not so much for what it isn't. Anybody else with me?

P.S. I got this suit at Wal-Mart for ten bucks ($5 each piece.)

Visiting you from City Girl Gone Country!

LOVE this post. I am half caucasian and half latina. I got all of the "whitey" looks, from my blue eyes to my freckled nose and blonde hair to match.... EXCEPT for my body's curves. I was blessed by my mother's genes, given a big 'ole booty and thunderous hips to match (paired with a not so small bust, as well). It took me YEARS to accept that my body was sexy, and not just different. I think it was especially difficult because I had so many white girl features, but just DIDN'T fit into white girl's clothing. it was depressing. Now, I cover my "hopeful" billboard with celebrities like Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jennifer Lopez, Betty Page, and Marilyn Monroe, among others. That and knowing that my curves are actually attractive to the male species, has built my confidence to rock it and flaunt what I've got... but it's been a long road to get there, and I still struggle with doubt from time to time.

So, THANK YOU, for posting this! It's an inspiration to know other women are accepting and loving their curves. Seriously.

I'm following now, and look forward to future posts :-)

Hope to catch you back on my blog!

WOW! Your body looks amazing and you should be proud of it! It's good when you can get to a place of comfort with the skin you are in.. so many of us are so unhappy with our bodies nowadays!

Gurl you better WERK that swim suit!!! You look awesome!!!

I feel you on how you felt about your body, I have those days too, not as often as I used to but I have them. Getting passed what I didn't like about my body and coming to grips of where I was helped me to really embrace the changes that needed to be made. Now I am on my way to a better me.

In a few months I am going to be able to take me some pictures like these, hehehe!! I won't be warm enough outside to actually wear the swim suit out, but darn it I am still going to take my pictures!!! LOL

You look awesome! And this was such a great read. Learning to love ourselves, and getting rid of that "if only" talk is a step many of us are struggling with. So I salute you for sharing these pics and this message!

Raises hand! You know I know about the big butt and thigh clan all too well. I lost a few pounds, but mama still got it. I hid it for years, but the long dresses has me channeling my inner Evelyn from BBW with more junk in the trunk! Walmart rocks, I don't care what they say!

You got Trina beat! You're the baddest chick. I had to get on my teen daughter about her body acceptance. She is 12 with no gut,big thighs and huge breasts. I told her in few years she will say"why did I hate this, what was I thinking!"LOL

You look absolutely stunning! The hard work always pays off, and clearly you've been putting in work at the gym. I love that you didn't just emphasize appearance but also the fact that you're exercising to get what you want.
