'Natural'ly Me!

I received some blog love from Key over at Don't Mess With Texas Style, a Houston based blog that focuses on Texas style and she featured lil ole me! She also showed support for me and Reiko's joint venture, Sisters From Another Mister, please check her out here. Thanks, Key!

After seeing Reiko's hilarious interview with Zarna,  I want to increase my blogger profile so I am officially opening myself up for features, interviews, questions and suggestions. (I was open before but no one has ever asked me so I'm just putting it out there, lol.)

I am considering doing more natural hair related posts, I don't consider myself a hair guru but I've heard through the grapevine that people want to know about my hair regimen. I have done lots of research and tried to educate myself on what works for my hair but it's an ever changing process. Thought I would share some pics of my natural hair journey:

In The Fashionista's Closet: It's Still Just Kool-Aid

A couple of years ago, (when I was part of a couple) we were friends with another couple and the woman was an attorney. She was very pretentious and would make snide comments about how none of her boyfriend's friends owned property (she lived in an apartment and he lived at home) and how because I worked at Neiman Marcus, everyone there must be 'classy' (incorrect assumption.) The couple eventually got engaged and when we received the invitation it looked like this:

blah blah blah would like to invite you to the wedding of her daughter
Attorney Bride's Name
to
Groom's Name

No, her name is not attorney, she put her JOB TITLE in front of her name on her wedding invitation. I still have the actual invitation but I couldn't figure out how to blur the names, but it was too good to throw out. I'm thinking that if you're inviting someone to your wedding, don't they already know what your occupation is? Notice she didn't put the fiance's job title on the invite, I guess his title wasn't important enough. Fast forward to the week of the wedding and my boyfriend at the time was told that because he didn't RSVP (he was in the wedding party and had been to all wedding related events) that they didn't realize that I was attending and that I could come but I would need to bring money to pay for my meal at the reception. Bring.money.to.pay.for.my.meal.at.the.reception.

There was some serious @#%^#$#$#(&+*** #who does that, is she serious, I thought she was so highfalutin words being said that day. Needless to say I didn't attend.

Vintage jacket and earrings
Jeans: Calvin Klein
Shoes:

(I took these pics before an event on Saturday and then
changed into navy pants to see if I liked the look better. Which look do you prefer?)

Pants: Zara
Assorted bracelets: Forever 21
Shoes: BCBG

Point being, you can dress up Kool-Aid any way you want to, add lemon slices, mix it with other flavors, add ginger ale, but it's all still country, sugary, no good for you, 20 cents a pack Kool Aid. Full discolsure, I love Kool Aid. I just bought some the other day. But I don't pretend that I'm too good for Kool Aid....

So as much as you want to be the "Too Good For You" City Mouse, just be okay with embracing your undeniable Country Mouse. It's ok...I promise

Grown Man Style: Guys In Bowties

Anything that sets a guy apart in the style department is appealing to me. I don't like guys that look too trendy, or too "done". I do have a particular penchant for guys in bowties. But you have to have the right attitude that comes with wearing a bowtie, it has to be the right mix of collegiate nerd, old school gentleman with a dash of panache thrown in. And mixing prints or bold colors with a bowtie is a total plus.

And since we're talking about the mens (yes I said mens) here are some things that Swagger 360 says that Every (grown) Man Should Do:

 Write a Love Letter.
 Play Chess.

  Have a hobby.

Write a thank you note.

Volunteer for a good cause.
See an opera or a play.
Live with Swagger.

This dude definitely has that certain something something that I like.

In The Fashionista's Closet: Box of Crayons

I am now subbing a small group of 5th grade boys everyday to prepare them for the TAKS test and they are really really aware of what I wear to class.

 Coat: Ann Taylor

One of them asked me today if I had someone who came to my house and picked out my clothes. When I laughed and said no, he said earnestly, "No, I'm serious. Do you? I ain't never seen nobody dress like you." (Note to self, work on grammar with them as well.)

They have asked if I used to work in fashion before I became their teacher (yes) and where do I shop for clothes (everywhere).

Sweater: Thrifted
Skirt: Vintage
Polka dot hose: Target
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

Again with this darn sweater, one kid asked if he could touch it and said it looked "so soft and comfortable." What is it with this sweater???

In addition to teaching testing strategies, I am also talking to them about the importance of good grooming. We all brought lotion, a brush and deodorant for those who may need it, I want them to feel a sense of pride in how they look. We do a self check and make sure that shirts are tucked in and shoes are tied before leaving the classroom. I tell them that we are all representatives of our class and we should all look and be our best. I hope it's sinking in...

InSIDE The Fashionista's Closet!

Guess what I did today?
Semi-organized my closet!

I am very visual so it is important to me to be able to see everything and have it all in one place.

My ex-boyfriend made me this earring holder out of some wood and screen netting but you can also use a picture frame.

I hung up hooks for my bags.

Found this organizer at the thrift store and finally put it to use.
This shoe organizer was a garage sale find.

I say 'semi-organized' because I normally hang my clothes by color so I hadn't tidied that up yet.

I hang my necklaces on a two sided belt hanger.

The shelves are from Home Depot, I used the small space at the bottom to hold my clutches.

Now of course this should make getting dressed easier in the morning, right???
