In The Fashionista's Closet: Bang Bang Bang Bang!

 Trench: Marshalls
I felt like the dad in Boomerang with my jacket and vest combo...

I'm so ready for spring! I really need to learn to sew asap. I'm intent on shortening all of my dresses from last year to a non-grandma length. Not too short but definitely to update my look.

Do you need a sewing machine to hem dresses, or can it be done by hand? I have a machine but I'm pretty clueless as to its operation and I'm not sure if it's an undertaking that I want to attempt unless it's relatively simple. Otherwise the items are making the trip to my mom's to be altered...

Feeling myself....

In The Fashionista's Closet: Great Expectations

People disappoint me. My main issue is dependability. It makes me angry when I feel that I can't count on someone, especially emotionally.

I can count the number of  times when I have been pushed to the limit stressed beyond belief and the very person that you thought would call you or be there for you wasn't anywhere around. I can give you names, dates, maybe even what I was wearing because I couldn't believe so and so wasn't there for me when I needed them most. Because that person was certainly around for...shopping...or gossiping....or going out to the club. Or any other extra-curricular activities.

But I realized recently (today in fact) that people will in fact disappoint me. My solution in the past has been to cut the person off, either by giving them a piece of my mind and not speaking to them again or just ignoring them as if they never existed. Once I see you in a different light after my disappointment I believe that things won't ever be the same because I know that I can no longer count on you.

But I know that that is not the right way to handle disappointments. I know that people will not always do the things that you expect them to, and it doesn't matter what role you've played in their lives. I need to look at what type of person they are at heart. If I can deal with the disappointment, I will try to just suck it up and not hold a grudge. Or I may decide to remove that person from my inner circle and place them in my outer circle and we'll be cool but I'll keep them at arm's length. But if I believe that you are a selfish person who only cares about themselves then it's curtains for the relationship.

So whenever someone disappoints me I've decided that I am going to take the focus off of myself and do something for someone else. Volunteer, call and check on someone who I haven't spoken to in a while, write a thank you card, or commit a random act of kindness. Any other ideas on things I can do for others? (Free of course.)

Let's hope these instances will be few and far between. I'm currently feeling this way so I'm trying to turn a negative into a positive....

In The Fashionista's Closet: Pretty Girl Decisions

I watched an episode of "The United States of Tara" and Tara's mother told her sister, "You're such a pretty girl. But you make ugly girl decisions." I laughed but that exchange resonated with me.
tunic/dress: gifted from Reiko
bag: Christmas gift (thanks Mom!)
necklaces: chain belts, Aldo
belt: Forever 21
jeans: 7 For All Mankind
shoes: BCBG

I find myself in situations that could be considered Ugly Girl decisions and when I say ugly, I don't mean in appearance but ugly as in displeasing. Ugly girl decisions are putting up with less than you deserve or participating in situations that are displeasing. Putting up with that job/man/situation that makes you feel "less than".

Being talked down to and not speaking up for yourself? Ugly girl decision. Actively participating in gossip and talking down to people? Ugly. Dealing with a liar, a cheater, or someone who doesn't appreciate you? You got it. Ugly ugly girl decisions.

So as of today, I vow to make Pretty Girl decisions, to expect more of myself and in turn only deal with those who treat me like the pretty girl that I am. How about you? Have you always made Pretty girl decisions, are you a reformed Ugly Girl or will you start being a Pretty Girl today too?

So if you're keeping up, you know that we're wearing our pretty panties and are now making pretty girl decisions.

Guess who I saw at Walmart today? Gabriel makes another appearance! Rhinestone studded eye patch? Check. Floor length jacket? Check.

 I love this guy!

It's hilarious to me that he never flinches or asks why I want to take his photo.....

In The Fashionista's Closet: Backwards Glance

Reiko gifted me this daishiki after I mentioned that she never wears it anymore (I originally saw her wearing it on her blog.) I guess I need to look at her other older outfit posts to see what else I can get! Just kidding...(but not really)...just kidding...(I think)...

I decided to wear it backward, I had tried it on this way before but it hasn't been warm enough to wear it until now.

I was watching Good Times recently (the episode was "The Rent Party) and saw this:

Yep that's my daishiki....

I'm looking forward to wearing lots of tops backwards!

Do you have any items that you wear in unconventional ways?

earrings: can't remember
pencil skirt: Ross
shoes: Jessica Simpson
hair: first day braidout

And a fitting honor to the boys who started it all:
