After my People/Bic For Her photo shoot I had the opportunity to meet up with Audrey of Miss Moon's Musings for some tasty adult beverages, great conversation and lots of laughs. Audrey and I met in person during my last visit to NYC so I was excited to see her again. And when I tell you Audrey gives good voice, I mean it! She has the BEST voice, it's all soothing and seductive and stuff. And her stories about her job literally had me in tears. #TeamAudrey #BrooklynInTheHouse

In The Fashionista's Closet: Kriss Kross
Remember the rap duo, Kriss Kross known for wearing their clothes backwards in the early 90's? Yeah that's me (and the kid from Reed Between the Lines, he always wears his jeans inside out.) I wore this cardigan look for the first time when I was in Houston, here are a couple of pics that were taken then:
Me with Reiko's little fashionista stepdaughter (she says that she's not stylish but she will definitely give her opinion on what she doesn't like, lol!)
Cardigan (Worn Backwards): Forever 21
Clutch: DSW
Pants: Diane vonFurstenburg
Shoes: Michael Kors
Me with my ace, God's Favorite Shoes.
I wore the look again when I ventured out to the Dallas Museum of Art with a couple of friends to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. It was surreal, a little creepy and....breathtaking. I literally gasped when I went into the last room of the exhibition.
No photographs were allowed and they were watching us like hawks to make sure that we didn't take any either. The jewelry that they used to style the looks was Ba-na-nas *in Rachel Zoe voice.*
I wanted to cry at the fact that I couldn't take pics, it was so inspiring.
BUT I couldn't have taken pics even if I wanted to because when it was time for me to take these pics, my camera battery was...dead. Thanks to Bethany for doing me a solid and using her camera phone to take my photos.
Conversation with a friend about my cardi:
Him: Is your sweater on backwards?
Me: Yep.
Him: You did that on purpose?
Me: Yeah. You don't like it?
Him: It's definitely....different....it's you.
Me: Ummm hmmm.
Him: Can guys do that or is this just for women?
Me: I don't want ANY dude doing this...
Him: 'Cept maybe Kanye.
Me: LOL! Yeah Kanye can rock it....
Earrings: Aldo
Jeans: Mango
Clutch: Rummage Sale
Shoes: Jessica Simpson Waleo
If you have a minute, check out the video of JPG at the DMA. The exhibition, "From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" runs until February 12, 2012.

In The Fashionista's Closet: Fresh Eyes
I got a chance to hang out with my partner in crime, my ace, my Sister From Another Mister, Reiko aka God's Favorite Shoes this weekend which wasn't really enough time for all of our hijinks and we took NO photos together *insert sad face* so there's no evidence of us even being together except for random Facebook posts and tweets. But we did go to her our family reunion and bonded over raiding my closet.
Remember this crop top? Well I found the skirt to it recently at the thrift store and showed it to Reiko. The skirt was waaaaaayyyyy too small but I figured I could do something with the fabric. Reiko looked at it and immediately said, "Wear it as a top. With a belt." I don't know what her standardized test scores were but I'm pretty sure this girl's a genius.
So I did.
I pinned the skirt-as-top and added this elephant belt and paired it with some cutoffs. I KNOW! I'm officially a shorts wearer. Stop asking yourself "WHEN is she gonna stop taking pics on her balcony?" It's really Hades hot outside and I just can't muster up the strength to take my setup to a more appealing location in this heat. I'll do better, I promise!
Earrings: Forever 21
Skirt (worn as a top): Thrifted
Elephant head belt: Thrifted
Cut offs: Levi's button fly (Old)
Bag: Kooba
Wedges: Dolce Vita for Target
Sometimes it takes a pair of fresh eyes to give new life to an item...

In The Fashionista's Closet: Austin Vibes
This is what I wore to the Texas Style Council event in Austin Saturday night. Fun people, free drinks = Good times! I really enjoyed the vibe in Austin, even though my mom lives an hour away, I don't go there often. It was very freeing for me, individuality is definitely encouraged and I loved every minute of it.
After meeting up with my partner in crime (if sneaking into public places to change clothes is a crime) we figured out that we didn't have anyplace to change clothes. Where we were staying were both too far away to go back to just to change. So we decided to sashay into a swanky hotel somewhere with bags in tow, change clothes and la-di-da our way on out.
dress: vintage
belt: vintage (it's all metal!)
clutch: vintage
wedges: Steve Madden
What we actually did was pull over because we couldn't find a parking space at a hotel, saw that we were at a hospital and stealthily snuck in to use their restroom. And of course I made multiple wardrobe changes, so we came up with a code knock, code word and backstory as to why were in the hospital to begin with if we were stopped. Reason? Sick grandma. Name of said grandma? Why Grandma of course.
I won some Claire Fong earrings at the Lulu's spin the wheel game!
I somehow lost my card case with my identification on the fricking street and a lovely Austinite contacted me via Facebook and got it back to me thanks to some teamwork by Reiko and Tina of T Minus T Plus. WHO doesn't love Austin???
I wish I had taken advantage of the photo booth more (or tried to be more photogenic, I was clowning around a lot) had I known that the photographer was so AMAZING!
But I did manage to photobomb Erin from Work With What You've Got, I haven't seen her since the summer even though we both live in Dallas I forgot how hilarious she is!
Photos courtesy of Nathan Russell Photography
If you're in Dallas, check her out at her new job Buffalo Exchange, she loves it there!
See Reiko's post for more pics of the fab bloggers we met in real life.....

In The Fashionista's Closet: Thrills and Chills
I know I owe you some pics so here are some recent thrift finds and some of my loot from Reiko from The Thrifting Challenge. Some of my things are at the dry cleaner so no pics until they come back.
Found this silk jacket at a new thrift store I found with a friend for $1.99. The pickings were slim on other items though.
Dress from Reiko (definitely a Willona from Good Times dress)
Silk top from Reiko, it has a tie at the neck. Found this animal print belt at my fave thrift store for $3
Ralph Lauren military style jacket $9
Another Willona dress from Reiko, it has small gold designs on it. Paired with my great thrifted belt.
I quit my second job today.
I got my first full check on Friday and found out that the commission process was not fully explained to me (not sure if it was deliberate) by both the district manager and manager and I wanted to cry. Working 25 to 30 hours a week on top of my full time job for what turned out to be minimum wage is not a good time in my book. But working 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday with no lunch and no breaks was the final straw. It had happened on two other occasions and I attributed it to poor time management but I realized that this seemed to be the norm instead of an exception. I told the manager that I wanted to make that my final day and she asked me to think about it and that she didn't want to lose me. But after taking into account my sore swollen right foot from being on my feet so much, the gas I was using to go to a job that I was being paid minimum wage for and not being able to see my friends or family because I was always working, I decided to go ahead and quit. I no longer want to be taken for granted and "suck it up," I want to set a standard for how I want to be treated both in my personal and professional life.
I know my worth and what I bring to the table so I won't let others diminish that.....
Annnnnndddd here's a little something to help you get your mojo working:

Where Are The 'Fits?
Sorry for the lack of posts, I have been a busy bee and had some computer issues last week so now we should be back to our regularly scheduled programming.
In the meantime, check out a post that God's Favorite Shoes did on our Thrifting Challenge. I should receive my goodies this week and I can't wait!
How much do I love these Rachel Roy heels? Not practical for anything in particular but who needs practical?
Check out Sarah Jessica Parker at Alexander McQueen's memorial service decked out in McQueen of course.

Another Meet and Greet and a Do-It-Yourself Idea!
Me and my partner in crime, Reiko of GFS met up again last night and this time managed to snag a bonafide authoress to hang out with us! (Does anyone else remember Maya from 'Girlfriends' stating that she was an authoress time and time again?) We had a grand time with Chastity from The Curvy Girl's Guide to Style, a recent transplant from Georgia who just recently published a book of the same name. Chastity definitely knows her style game and her book is a must read for all the curvy girls out there. And for a mere $15 she gives style tips, shopping sites, and body type information to make curvy girl shopping easy breezy.
The dress that I'm wearing used to be white. I wanted it because I was obsessed with Will & Grace; well actually I was obsessed with Grace's wardrobe and I would got to nbc.com every week and it would show you what designers Grace wore in every episode. (I take this fashion thing very seriously.) So Grace wore this white dress in a cruise episode and it was from Banana Republic and was then regular price. So I waited until the dress was marked down and the salesguy told me when it would be marked down even more and I was able to get it for a fraction of what Grace paid and felt very smug that I had put one over on Grace although I'm pretty sure Grace got hers for free.
I had it for years but it was limited in its wearability, I couldn't wear it to a wedding because it was, well, white so I would wear it to different events and add a belt or flowers at the waist and in my hair but because it was white everyone remembered it. So last year I decided to dye it. I bought two bottles of yellow Rit dye, followed the washing machine instructions and voila, it's perfect!
It was much darker as it came out of the machine but I still like the lighter finished result. What about you, have you been able to give an article of clothing a "new look" with dye?
Reiko, Chastity and me
Don't the ladies look great?
