I went to run errands and this is what I wore....
I would have to say that this outfit is the epitome of me on the weekends. I tend to gravitate to long dresses with bold colors, add lots of bangles, big earrings and call it a day. No ironing involved and yet I still feel pulled together.
Sunglasses: Armani
Earrings: Forever 21
Bracelets/watches: Assorted
Jacket: Thrifted
Dress: Marshalls
Clutch: Vintage
Shoes: Payless (Can someone please start a shoe fund for me, I am in desperate need of some new shoes for summer. Thank you very much.)
I went to a housewarming party on Saturday that turned into a Girls Nite In and lasted well into the wee hours. My girlfriends made me try on some outfits that I wouldn't normally wear and took pics that I won't share here. One was waaaayyy tooo short and skimpy but I actually really enjoyed the other look even though I might not have chosen it for me at first glance.
The general consensus among the ladies was that I don't "show off my shape"
(even though I feel as though I do but apparently I'm in the minority)
and someone asked if it was because I didn't want negative attention from men. I have to admit that that is a part of it, I don't want to be labeled or treated a certain way because I am wearing something fitted, I want a man to be attracted to more than just my physical appearance. I have also had some negative experiences with the way that men have approached me and treated me and I think that I "cover up" as a defense mechanism so that I won't be seen as just a piece of meat. I know that I have more to offer than just my physical self and I do not want to be diminished by what I am wearing.
But it did get me thinking about how I am not challenging myself to think outside of the box sometimes because I always choose to wear something loose or long, or both. I want my style to be ever evolving and feel as though I could stand to be a little less "buttoned up" so to speak.
So I will begin to try some new things and maybe opt to tuck my shirt in sometimes and let people see that I'm NOT an 83 year old grandma trapped in a 39 year old's body. I always tend to try larger sizes so that things won't be too tight but maybe next time I'll get the medium instead of the large.
(Shut up Reiko, I said next time.)

But I still like this outfit....

You look laid back and chic. Love that maxi dress. I NEVER find cute clothes in Marshalls.. only stuff for my home. Boo!
Lovely maxi dress. Love the clutch!
This is my favorite spring/summer look. I love a good denim jacket over a cardigan any day.

I've been following your blog for the past few months and I love your style - it's eclectic, dynamic and, yes, sexy. Even though you are not wearing minis and body conscious dresses, your fitted jeans and pencil skirts more than compensate. Plus, I like the nod to Good Times and all things funky, lol. Looking forward to seeing your evolution either way.
Once Again...Love the look!!!! The bright colored maxi dress. Maxi Dresses are one of my staples for the spring and summer months...It's so effortless but yet you look so put together.

I would love to raid your closet, because you have some of the most amazing style among the fashionista blogs. I can't imagine you ever dressing in a sleazy or cheap way. I understand about dressing for your level of comfort, but you must also know that men will always be attracted to a beautiful fit lady, which you are. It never justifies men crudity, specially in certain neighborhoods shall we say where young black women or little girls can't even walk down the street without some asshole harasser holaring @ ya and then calling you names bc you have no interest. outside of these neighborhoods, most women dress anyway they want without experiencing such a demeaning nonsense.
Awww!! You look cute! I'd so wear this outfit! Its simple and effortless. You go girl :)
Love.Love.Love..Everything..Hide yo dress, Hide yo purse..hide yo earrings..lol

I love comfort. So I dress in loose fitting clothes the majority of the time, and love maxi everything!
There are times (when I go out with the girls) I'll dress in some form fitted something. Seems appropriate then.
I do love this look. The maxi dress is gorgeous and like how you paired the jean jacket with it. I do the same thing!
