I am now subbing a small group of 5th grade boys everyday to prepare them for the TAKS test and they are really really aware of what I wear to class.

One of them asked me today if I had someone who came to my house and picked out my clothes. When I laughed and said no, he said earnestly, "No, I'm serious. Do you? I ain't never seen nobody dress like you." (Note to self, work on grammar with them as well.)
They have asked if I used to work in fashion before I became their teacher (yes) and where do I shop for clothes (everywhere).

Again with this darn sweater, one kid asked if he could touch it and said it looked "so soft and comfortable." What is it with this sweater???
In addition to teaching testing strategies, I am also talking to them about the importance of good grooming. We all brought lotion, a brush and deodorant for those who may need it, I want them to feel a sense of pride in how they look. We do a self check and make sure that shirts are tucked in and shoes are tied before leaving the classroom. I tell them that we are all representatives of our class and we should all look and be our best. I hope it's sinking in...

LOL kids say the darndest things. well you look great and i bet now they are telling all the women in their family to dress like you.
So.... when can I pencil you in to come to talk to a group of my students? lol!! If I see one mo' pair of sagging pants I think I may puke!!! It is so NOT the thing, but I come in and leave the building telling boys the SAME thing!!!! Well, atleast your boys know how to spot a fashionista:) They'd be super impressed to know that their teacher has a fashiob blog and styles others, lol!
Ha! LOL! Just as Carmen replied, those young boys will be forever indebted to you for instilling that sense of dignity and pride in them.
As an educator, i can definitely relate! The boys pay just as much attention as the girls. I had an 8th grade boy ask if I wore "tracks" (ghetto term form hair weave) in my hair because the ends were cut so nice. Ten years ago I had a 7th grade boy to actually tell me in a very quiet voice, through his teeth, that my hair weave was dry. This particular kid is actually making his way as a top and most requested hair stylist in our area. LOL!
Now the East African high school girls seem to compliment daily and say things like you really dress nice especially when I wear long flowing tunics. One kids stopped me and said, hey lady, I don't know who you are but u dress really nice, where do you shop? I replied just as you did, "everywhere" so long as the price is right.
I know I typed too much, but I did so as a reflection of how I truly should take advantage of the moments where students are noticing me to use as teachable moments just as you creatively did. Those boys will more than likely have the confidence to do quite well on the state test.

This makes me smile so.. I have a soon to be 9 yr old and he notices new items even if he didn't see me buying them. He'll ask "is that new? when did you buy this?" I never thought little boys noticed or cared about fashion. But I think if I were you, I'd be flattered.
Thank you for grooming our little boys into young men. Little girls and their parents everywhere thank you. You never know what may turn someone's life around. Your taking this interest in them could be the thing that keeps these boys from a destructive path.
And the outfit is too cute too....
